This paper presents the results of a case study that is part of the ongoing doctoral thesis research “The villancico in the Cathedral of Santiago de Chile (1770-1840). Local and Local and Peninsular References, Style, and Possible Authorship," supervised by Alejandro Vera (PUC) and Álvaro Torrente (UCM). By comparing the villancico preserved in the Musical Archive of the Cathedral of Santiago de Chile, Hoy al portal ha venido by Antonio Ripa with its peninsular homolog with concordant texts preserved in booklets and musical manuscripts, this work provides new evidence on circulation and reuse of lyrics and music of villancicos in Spain, and from the Peninsula to Latin America and Chile.
