Acknowledgement to the musical work of Elisa Avendaño Curaqueo, National Prize of Musical Arts 2022

Abstract

This text aims to provide some relevant cultural, musical and biographical information for a better understanding of the musical work of Elisa Avendaño Curaqueo, a traditional Mapuche performer that has been awarded with the National Prize of Musical Arts 2022. We mention the traditional roles or functions that she has developed, some musical features about the music she performs, as well as her constant efforts related to the vindication of the Mapuche people and culture. We emphasize the importance of awarding this prize to Elisa Avendaño, due to she is the fifth women and the first indigenous person to obtain it.
