Abstract

The Bolivian moceño has not undergone profound studies yet, and the instrument is also surrounded by a halo of mystery in the milieus of urban musicians passionate about Andean music. This makes many questions about its origin, the way it is played, the particular sound emission, its position within the Aymara flute families, etc., remain open to this day. Based on musical analysis, this article tries to provide elements that allow to give some answers, emphasizing the technique of the harmonics, the blowing, and the fingering. Some comments on the influences to which the instrument is currently subjected complete the investigation.
